Jessica Simpson is a well-known singer, actress and television personality in Michigan, along with her sister, Ashlee Simpson. Both of these celebrities have been managed by their father Joe Simpson. The 54-year-old minister has always been devoted to his daughters and their careers, and has spent his life promoting their talents.
Joe Simpson has been in the news recently, however, because he was arrested earlier this month on suspicion of drunk driving. He and his wife were out for dinner and were returning home at approximately 10 p.m.
While en route and close by to the restaurant, Simpson drove through a DUI checkpoint. Simpson was willing to voluntarily take a breath test because he allegedly only had a couple of glasses of wine at dinner.
He was certainly surprised at the news that he failed the Breathalyzer test when the results revealed that he was over the legal limit for alcohol.
He was charged with one count of DUI (California's term for OWI) and an additional count of driving with a blood-alcohol level of 0.08 percent or greater. He is facing the possibility of up to six months in, three years of probation, a fine of up to $1,000, and a driver's license suspension.
Simpson was arrested and spent the night in jail. He was released the next morning and is scheduled to appear in court for his arraignment at the end of the month.
This situation could happen to anyone in Michigan. Sobriety checkpoints are designed to stop everyone on the road, not just the typical drunk driver. However, one might question whether -- considering that he was slapped with both a DUI and a separate driving while over .08 -- he might have been better off refusing to take a breath test under the circumstances.

This should be an example to everyone. No one is above the law. Even popular personalities should abide by the law. And drinking under the influence of alcohol is dangerous. It may lead you to accidents. And aside from these reasons, you might face serious illegal charges.
